For almost 130 years, the house has been in the hands of the family. The passion has been handed down and today the fourth Drouhin’s generation is running the business.
Joseph Drouhin works according to an organic and biodynamic approach. The soil’s treatments are only based on natural products. Everything possible is made to respect the earth, the vine and the environment; the house’s belief being « find natural answers to natural problems ».
With 73 hectares, the Joseph Drouhin vineyard is one of the largest in the region. It is spread over the whole Burgundy Region: Chablis (38 hectares), Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, (32 hectares), Côte Chalonnaise (3 hectares), and it includes a majority of Grands Crus and Premiers Crus, produced with 2 grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The vineyard grew step by step through wise purchases and family agreements. Some parcels are part of the most famous Burgundy wines such as the Clos des Mouches, the Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche, the Musigny, the Clos de Vougeot or the Corton-Charlemagne.
In order to express Joseph Drouhin’s attachment to this historic land, the name « Vaudon » has appeared on all Chablis wines since 2008. The Vaudon mill, property of Joseph Drouhin, is an 18th century former water mill, located near Chablis Grands Crus, which crosses the symbolic Serein River. It is the historical head office of the property, an outstanding place in the heart of Joseph Drouhin’s Chablis vineyard.
